A little Valentine treat

February 11, 2018 Laura Leave a Comment

A few days ago, I taught craft hour with my Mom and her fellow residents. It’s always a challenge to come up with a simple but ideal project. At times, there are physical and mental challenges to overcome with seniors. As a Demonstrator, I have been working/crafting with seniors for over 13 years. Over a year ago I met with a young employee who was doing some of the crafting on the weeks I didn’t. She enjoyed my projects and was planning to do crafts every week. As time went on, her projects were more like pre school ideas. I asked her where she was getting her ideas. She stated that she would go on Pinterest looking for Kindergarten projects. That, of course, made me feel bad. We have all heard that as we age, the child becomes the parent and the parent becomes the child. But this was different. I personally did not like the projects that she was “serving” to the seniors. The ideas were 1/2 finished, created by the young lady and then the senior would maybe add one or two items to it. To me it wasn’t challenging and it seemed demeaning to the seniors. She was not there very long. I admit, they really should have a full-time Crafter there. In the meantime, I enjoy crafting with this group of seniors every month.

For our project, I pulled some ideas from one of my awesome customers Valentines Day cards she had posted on Facebook. That would be you Sheri L.

The backside:

The hidden treat in an easel:

The easel part is super easy to make. A strip of C.S. 1″ X 6″. Scored at 1 3/4″, 3 1/2′, and 5 1/4″. Fold like a triangle. The little piece hanging over, add your favorite adhesive and glue down. Add adhesive to back of the circle and attach to triangle. That’s it.

Enjoy these cute treats, No matter How old you are!
