Creating an Impromptu Birthday Gift

Laura · August 2, 2017 · 2 Comments

My hubby, Don, called down to my office and told me we had to fix the WiFi at one of our house watch accounts. Ok. We are not the Cable people but we are pretty good at figuring out general problems. Don is always up for a challenge. When we got to the house, the owner was out swimming but her Sister, Mary Beth, greeted us. She was visiting and was worried about her lack of WiFi in the house. Like most of us, we need our technology. Don and I did all the usual trouble shooting. We finally decided to just unhook the router and the cable box. We gave it a few moments and then reattached everything. Sure enough, it came back up, working like a champ. Yea! We did not need Cable guy to come over and give a service call which is really a relief.

I learned that Mary Beth was a real news junkie and she had to read the New Yorker, Biz news, etc. Kind of like I HAVE to have coffee in the morning/always-Mary Beth needs to read all the “good news” of what’s going on in the world. Totally get it. I was very happy we could help her. Don and I also found out it was Her Birthday (it was 70 something young). Hah Ha! Awesome. You know what that means.

I got back to my office and created a fun gift for her. Sure, I don’t really know her but she is family to our clients. Besides, who wouldn’t like a gift from out of nowhere?!

Since she traveled here by plane, I created a perfect packable item to take back home. One always has to have that in mind when giving gifts. It’s being a bit thoughtful. I created stamped coasters, a great home decor idea.

I was already working on these anyway for my “get my info out there bags”, I made two designs. Coasters are the perfect gift for anyone. Even if you really don’t know them.

Stamped Coasters

I love these coasters. In a way, it’s sort of altered art. The design is already there, I just enhanced it by stamping the ladies and greeting. Easy. I bought these coasters at the Doller Tree stores. Another Demonstrator had pointed this out -What is so great is that they absorb water AND I can stamp without using sealant. That is the perfect gift idea. Now that I put that out there, don’t be mad if you can’t find any. Just order them from their Online store and pick up at the store to save on shipping.

On to the gift bag. A generic bag from a big box craft store made pretty with my tag and ribbon.

Happy Birthday Bag

Happy Birthday Tag

To make this tag, I taped the Foil Frenzy Specialty Designer Series Paper or DSP to a scrap piece of Whisper White CS. Then I placed the Lots of Labels Framelit on the 1/2 way spot. I left just enough room so that I could add the greeting-Happy Birthday, Gorgeous.

The back of the tag:

So Easy but very cool. Many of you will buy the gift and place in a bag. Even if you can’t make the card, or even the gift, start small and make a fun tag. Sometimes, that is what they remember or even tuck away to keep or reuse.
