What’s going on with Laura?
I don’t always share what’s happening in my personal life unless it’s a biggie and if it interferes with stamping and daily life. Three years ago, I was diagnosed with “little old lady knees”. How rude! I wondered why I couldn’t run for long and very far. Walking then limping. I guessed that all the running I did in high school and college, and road races had done me in. No, not really. I was diagnosed with Osteoarthritis/degenerative knees with bone on bone in both knees. It’s inherited. I guess I got this from Mom. Her knees always hurt, crackled, etc. I had my x-rays checked in 2012 and no issues, no hint of what was to come back then. I turned 50 and just thought I needed supplements or even Physical Therapy. Nope! It was a brutal diagnosis and at the time, I was handling things with my mom’s advancing Dementia.
Earlier this year, I made the decision, I need to take care of myself. How many times do we all say we will and put it off? I had been limping for the last year. Of course, with the pandemic, everything was on hold. This month, June 7th was my surgery day to handle the worst- my left knee. Spurs, severe arthritis, gone, and a Total Knee Replacement leaving a shiny new bionic knee (inside)! Plus, The Dr. jazzed up my right knee with a new medicine so that I can handle the exercises in the next few months. It’s doing the trick.
Now, after being home a week, Addie got braces, and Victoria had her wisdom teeth out. Oh, you know this was a rough week! Someone on Facebook typed,” you sure know how to have fun!” That was the statement of the year. I thought Don was going to leave and go stay at a hotel so he didn’t need to help everyone. After a few days, all calmed down.
I am three weeks out and doing well. Nights are rough. I am up walking around with my cane at different times in the night. My FitBit is having fun. First, it was a week before I could go down to my office. 15 stairs down, rest. It was 20 min of standing or sitting, I was restless and had to get back up those 15 stairs. Choice words here and there. It wasn’t until the last few days that I have had an hour or two of stamping time. I am exercising my knee, moving more, and today, I had my 33 staples removed. No driving yet as I am still on pain pills at night. Fooey! No Narcos as I gave them up after a week and 1/2. I will be doing Outpatient P/T starting tomorrow and I am determined to get back more of my bend. I am at 95 right now. Not bad. I definitely will be getting my right knee done in another 7 months or maybe a year from now. It all depends on what’s going on. I have too many craft fairs and events to do in the next few months. I paid for 5 events and they carried them over to this year. So, you know what’s driving me to get better right now. Plus, My Hubby, Don, needs me to be driving again. He is certainly not liking all the driving around, errands, etc, etc. Would you believe, I even had InstaCart deliver twice. Don, doesn’t know yet, but I am having TruBlue cleaning service coming on Friday. Yeah, I needed help. I am not that proud. When you know you can’t do it all, and two teens and a tired older Hubby just looking at you. Well, a woman has to do what a woman has to do.
So with that, I am ready for July. I am ready for the next half of this year. I say Bring it on! Watch for my Bionic Knee Special!
Enjoy!
